How old are the kids we are talkign about? When you say "daycare" do you mean preschool? Or are some of the kids school age? It is actually very difficult to diagnose ADHD in preschoolers because so many other conditions can mimic ADHD. Working with a child who has been diagnosed with ADHD can be very frustrating for sure.

First of all I would suggest you consult with the child’s parents. They may be able to give you some pointers.

Have activities with lots of movement.

    Change activities frequently.

When you talk to them, use fewer words. We often overwhelm them with too much language and they just can’t attend to all of it.

Reward small successes with stickers or whatever the child likes.

Be very consistent and follow definite rules. Don’t punish today something that was ok yesterday. Punish less, reward more.

Seek help from others who have worked with kids with ADHD – teachers, counselors, anyone you might know.

Most kids with ADHD have certain activities that can totally captivate them. Find out what they are and if possible have them available for difficult times. Usually technology works well.

Check out the websites I’ve attached. There are hundreds of others. I hope this is of some help.

take out the belt. use some force, but don’t kill the kid. most "ADHD diagnosed" kids are just a bunch of b.s. its just another excuse to not pay attention. i gaureentee you if you spank them they will pay attention.

A child with ADHD definitely requires medication. They have to be set apart from normal children if they are not on medication. Otherwise they will hurt and disrupt the other children. There is no way to get them to listen. They simply live in another world….Even their parents can’t stand to be around them, although they love them dearly. I’m around them all the time. My best friend has a 7 year old boy with ADHD. He’s very destructive.

If I were you, I would talk to someone to try and get the child medicine.
Though normally people have to be more strict with ADHD/ kids with depression.

That is difficult because children of daycare age are quite young and can be misdiagnosed. Young children are naturally wild and have short attention spans. However, I know that having a routine may help. Also, teaching them in a way that captures their attention is good. My son has a very short attention span, but loves video games. I bought a bunch of educational computer games (phonics, math, reading) and he spent quite a bit of time playing with them. If your center has a computer, I would try that. Kids with ADD also learn better with 1 on 1 teaching. I know that is not always possible, but see if you can make the class size smaller or at least do some small group work during the day.
