Autism Speaks is Changing How Medical Care is Delivered to Children with Autism

Now an Autism Speaks staff member, Marcy Oakes-Henschel, has two sons on the autism spectrum, both suffering from GI issues. In this video, she describes her journey to get them the care they need and how, in the process, her advocacy changed the way her doctor cared for children with autism and GI issues. A new study finds that older fathers are more likely to have autistic children, and their genetic material plays a larger role than the mother’s DNA. Dr. Cathy Lord of New York Presbyterian Hospital speaks to the “CBS This Morning” co-hosts about the study.
